Maybe he should just read the sourcecode? I'm sure (read "hope") the code is commented...
Kind of.. Still, a little bit of documentation (a few sentences would be better than nothing) would really help people that want to contribute to PHP get started (or finished). The tricky thing in my experience is not figuring out how to write the code, but understanding how to develop a new extension and make it fit into the rest of PHP nicely. I wrote an "extension" to PHP 3, but it required modifications to the make files and some of the core PHP source files, so "distributing" it to others is not very intuitive. PHP 4 seems to have solved these issues, although the details aren't very clear (to me). What I'd like to do is update my extension to work with PHP 4, and then release it to the community, either as part of PHP 4 as separate. What is the recommended way of doing this, assuming that things are working in the /ext/myext way of doing things? Should I apply for a CVS account and add the directory to the distribution? Is this better done before or after PHP 4 goes final? Thanks to all. ____________________________________________________
