Doesn't work for me, either (Solaris 7, gcc 2.95). I get somewhat different messages, but they're all in the mysql subtree. I haven't been able to build since the mysql stuff was added to the tree.
The latest snapshots build correctly on Solaris 7 and FreeBSD 3.4. If you experienced problems, please update your checkout or download newer snapshots. - Sascha
I was using the latest snapshots. Just to make sure, I fetched a completely new copy of the distribution. Same result. However, after some investigation, it appears to be some problem with the particular configuration options I'm using. --enable-track-vars works. --enable-track-vars --enable-mysql works. But as soon as I add --with-dom=/usr/local, I start to get compile errors (uint already defined) in the libmysql directory. I'm investigating further, will post further information if I can find something useful.
The problem turns out to be related to libz. The libxml library that is used when --with-dom is added to the configure command includes support for reading compressed files. - Adding --with-xml to the configure command causes -lxml to be added to the command that configure uses to compile test programs - libxml includes support for reading compressed files, and thus requires libz. This results in failure of many, many test programs during configuration. Here's an example from config.log: configure:12755: checking for crypt.h configure:12755: checking for alloca.h configure:12797: checking size of char configure:12816: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -R/usr/ucblib -L/usr/ucblib -R/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/lib conftest.c -lxml -lresolv -lresolv -lm -lcrypt -lsocket -lnsl -lsocket 1>&5 Undefined first referenced

gzdopen /usr/local/lib/libxml.so
gzread /usr/local/lib/libxml.so
gzopen /usr/local/lib/libxml.so
gzwrite /usr/local/lib/libxml.so
gzclose /usr/local/lib/libxml.so
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to conftest collect2: ld returned 1 exit status To resolve this, I set the LIBS environment variable to -lz before running configure so that -lz is added to the test program compilation commands. This is for Solaris. I was having the same problem under LinuxPPC, but setting LIBS to -lgz does the trick. I think libxml didn't always have compressed document support, but it does now, so perhaps configure should look for libz automatically when the --with-dom option is specified? -- Paul DuBois, paul@snake.net
