Hi,
I'm wondering if someone using the PHP4 beta on IIS can confirm that
either the mysql daemon or the PHP4 mysql module or IIS seem to have
a problem with this combination.
I installed the latest PHP4 binary distribution on a clean IIS 5.0
(win2k) server. I added the shareware mysql binaries available from
mysql.com (that's the evaluation version). I added phpMyAdmin, latest
version. mysql is running as a service.
I have done very few tests, but so far using PHP4 with some basic
non-db related commands including phpinfo() (after commenting out the
empty include_path line) works fine. mysql and it's helper programs
seem to work from the command line as well.
However, using phpMyAdmin just creates problems. About each second
request creates a 500 error and a "Access violation" message as the
returned page. I don't know which program issues this explanation,
the IIS log just contains the 500.
In most cases it's possible to get a page displayed by refreshing it
several times. This won't work for some specific pages in phpMyAdmin.
Interestingly, if I do a complete restart of IIS pages which
consistently refused to work will now work, one after |restart| after
the other ...
After I changed the phpMyAdmin login to "Advanced" I get this Access
violation thing right away when trying to login (I think I got the
login screen once and never thereafter) and now not even a complete
restart will help.
I have installed phpMyAdmin numerous times, so this can't be a
problem with wrong installation. I know that phpMyAdmin has some
minor bugs but nevertheless basically it seems a good tool of
checking out PHP4+mySQL performance (not in the sense of speed) and
reliability on IIS to me.
I haven't yet tested phpMyAdmin with PHP4 on a Unix platform or on
IIS4. If there isn't a general, major incompatibility between PHP4
and phpMyAdmin it looks like there is a major problem with the
PHP4/mysql/IIS5 combination.
