Sascha I was having the same problem when trying to start apache and load PHP4 as a DSO. The message: Cannot load /web/apache/libexec/libphp4.so into server: libmysqlclient.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I removed the part --with-mysql=/mysql/dir when running the PHP configure and was able to make it and load it into Apache. To my surprise, I can access mysql from PHP pages without problems. When I run phpinfo() I get: Configure command: './configure' '--prefix=/web/php' '--disable-debug' '--enable-track-vars' '--with-config-file-path=/web/php' '--enable-ucd-snmp-hack' '--with-apxs=/web/apache/bin/apxs' '--with-xml' '--with-ftp' php.ini path: /web/php ZEND_DEBUG=0 SAPI=Apache ZTS is undefined mysql Directive Local Value Master Value mysql.allow_persistent On On mysql.max_persistent Unlimited Unlimited mysql.max_links Unlimited Unlimited mysql.default_host no value no value mysql.default_user no value no value mysql.default_password no value no value mysql.default_port no value no value Key Value Active Persistent Links 1 Active Links 2 Client API version 3.23.10-alpha MYSQL_INCLUDE MYSQL_LFLAGS MYSQL_LIBS Am I missing anything here? What is then the puropose of having --with-mysql in the config OS Info: RedHat 6.1 Apache 1.3.9 PHP4RC1 Hope this helps to anyone with the same problem. Juan
