I thought that the bug #3041 problem had disappeared, but in fact you are correct, it is still there in RC1. It turns out that the reason I thought it had gone was that I had moved from IIS to Apache on my development machine to avoid the delays caused by IIS holding files open after they have been served up. It turns out that php4RC1 under Apache seems not to exhibit the problem, but under IIS it does. Anyway, I'll add my thanks to Zeev for the fix, as I would have been bitten badly by it next week when the site I am currently working on goes live on an IIS box!
