Hiya :)
Well, we win! Sort of :) We get to use PHP4 over here for a lot of our
"independant" (read small) projects, and we are using a PHP4 app from an
outside vendor that is very large.
On the downside, new work that involves coding objects with "business logic"
look liek they will wind up being coded in Perl and run under
PerlEx/PerlScript or Velocigen. The reason? Well, some folks around here
feel that if we write it in clean perl we have more "options" for keeping
that code into the future.
A few general questions that might help before this sets in stone:
1) Does anyone have a link to a comparison between PHP4 vs. PerlEx or
Velocigen on the Win32/IIS platform?
2) Can I use PHP to build COM objects?
3) Can PHP spawn a seperate engine pool and use that instead of running
inside the memory space of the IIS/Apache? There is a diagram of what our
boss was impressed with at http://www.velocigen.com/velocigen/arch.vet
4) Can PHP do multiple inheritance?
5) Would we agree that it is much easier to go PHP4 -> c/c++ than perl ->
c/c++? The syntax sure looks like it!
6) Anyone know of a PHP4/WebDav integration method ?
Ken
