Overloading functions

Hi,
I'm creating my own extension for php4. Build as shared library.
No problems so far...
My question is, can i overload other php functions? Not static as a
export from my extension but trough dynamic altering the functiontable.
Eg. redefine fopen with a new one from me?
If i understand the Zend structure right, every item is a object in the
symbol_table. So it should be possible to get the entry of the function
and redefine it. But all i get with zend_hash_find are segmentation
faults..
