Dual PHP3/PHP4 setup?

I was wondering if anyone had setup their Apache to use PHP3 and PHP4 as
separate activated modules (via APXS), and then specify specific filename
extensions for each engine.
Would this even work?
I'm looking to set up a test machine that will allow me to develop in PHP3
and simultaneously experiment with PHP4.
Any help would be great!
