Installation Question

Here's a quick question. After re-compiling php to add support for a certain database (in this case, mysql) would apache then need to be re-compiled/installed as well? When I install on my boxes Apache is always the last thing I install, but I've never had to add anything to php. I'm trying to help out the same person who I asked the last question about. It turns out phpinfo() had no mentions of mysql. To quote the person, "Bummer". Total bummer. Thanks for any help, Bradley
