Funnily enough I just spent an entire sad weekend researching just that
problem and finally succeeded with:
php3.0.15
libmcrypt2.2.1
libmhash0.3.0
mcrypt2.2.4
But you don't need mcrypt itself since PHP calls the .so functions.
I built on AIX with Oracle 8i and mod_ssl. And it hurt.
I was pretty confused by the end and I had to alter some of the cipher test
code to get a full make with only warnings and not showstoppers.
And I got this code in one download from a site which I thought was called
uk1.munitions.co.uk but looking I can't find it so I'll mail you later if I
do find it. I found it tough finding these libraries at the right version
for me but maybe it's an AIX thing.
Good luck - it's worth the pain.
Nick

What version of PHP, mcrypt and mhash do I need to be able to use
mcrypt_cfb(), mcrypt_cbc(), mcrypt_ecb() and mcrypt_ofb()?
