Hi,
I'm trying to set up a web server running Apache, and have run into a problem.
What I'd like to do is have an Apache server that can run Jserv, mod_ssl,
and php running w/ oracle and mysql support on Redhat 6.2 for x86.
I managed to get everything running fine until I finally added Oracle into
PHP. Then, things stopped working badly.
Before I added Oracle, and had stock Redhat 6.2 running a freshly compiled
copy of Apache 1.3.12. I added OpenSSL 0.9.5a, mod_ssl 2.6.4, and PHP_rc1
with MySQL support, and finally JServ 1.1 (using IBM 1.1.18 jdk, and Sun
JSDK 2.0). Yes, we do need PHP4, though I don't remember why.
So, far, all is good. I can connect to Apache on either ssl or non-ssl
port, and run my entire web site with accesses both MySQL and Oracle
databases (Oracle done via servlet only) with no problems. Most of the web
site is generated via php, and I can access MySQL db via PHP and servlets.
So, I finally go to add Oracle support into PHP, re-compile PHP, so far no
error messages -- compiled perfectly. I then attempt to fire up Apache, and
nothing. No httpd, no error messages of any sort. There's a reference in
the Jserv logs about Jserv attempting to start, but thats about it (and
yes, I attempted all this w/o starting Jserv, no difference except no log
info at all). I installed the Oracle client and the Oracle programmer
software on my Apache server (the Oracle server itself is on a different
machine). And I do have the ORACLE enviro settings set.
So, after playing around w/ different combinations and trying some ideas I
found on the 'net, I managed to get things running, but only if I
1. Only use PHP_rc1. If I use rc2 it doesn't work at all.
2. Use the Oracle 8.0.5 libraries instead of the current 8.1.5 libraries.
3. Start Apache in non-ssl mode only. If I try ssl mode, it doesn't work at
all.
This above combination sucks. While I don't think I yet need the
functionality of the 8.1.5 libraries, it would be nice to have them
installed in case I do. But, I do need to have the secure capabilities of
mod_ssl. Lastly, I'm looking forward to the release of PHP4.0 and not being
able to use RC2 doesn't make me feel too good.
Has anyone ever managed to get this combination to work? I'm I pushing
Apache too hard to get all these services running on the single server?
I'm thinking that perhaps I just try to get Oracle 8.1.5 working w/ apache
and php first, then add the other stuff later? Should Oracle 8.1.5 work
with PHP4_rc1 or rc2? I noticed code in the configure file that is
_successfully_ detecting my Oracle version (for both versions of the
libraries :)
If the above combination doesn't work, is there another way of accessing
Oracle on the same web server server through some sort of other 3rd party
module that PHP can talk to? -- maybe another Apache module or some sort of
PHP module?
I don't know if it will help, but I supplied the ./configure I used for php
when I added the oracle support (we will probably be running multiple
Apache servers for a different reason, and have multiple PHP just in case
-- that's why PHP is in a funky place):
make clean
export CFLAGS=-DEAPI; ./configure --with-mysql --with-oracle
--prefix=/usr/local/apache/sportsmvp
--with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/sportsmvp/bin/apxs --enable-track-vars
make
make install
The configure statement is all one line, it just looks seperated because of
the email client.
Anyway, I'd appreciate any help or ideas anyone might have? I'd really like
to get this combination to work :)))
Thanks!
