Thanks! That fixed it. Actually, it turns out the problem had nothing to do
with PHP, or Oracle for that matter. It turns out there's a problem with
Linux Apache and any module that references the pthread library. In my
case, PHP was linking against the Oracle libraries which link against the
pthread library. Doh!
The only way around it is to link Apache itself to the pthread shared library.
