modules loading problem

We have experienced some problems with loading modules under PHP4 RC1/2. The main system is Linux 2.2.x/ix86 on glibc 2.1.3/gcc 2.95 and apache 1.3.12 with EAPI extensions. But it seems that it not depends on configuration. Symptoms from httpd log are: PHP Fatal error: Unable to load dynamic library 'pgsql.so' - pgsql.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 PHP Fatal error: Unable to load dynamic library 'xml.so' - xml.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 PHP Fatal error: Unable to load dynamic library 'dba.so' - dba.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 [and so on...] extension_dir in php.ini is set correctly and the only way to fix these errors we found setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to a directory the same as is in extension_dir, where modules actually are. It is rather strange or even ugly solution, isn't it? Did we miss something or it's a kind of silly bug?
