If you look in PEAR (installed in /usr/local/lib/php/ by default I believe)
you'll se DB.php and a DB/ dir. This is database abstraction layer code but
I've had trouble using it with the new 'use()' function. It's pretty new
too so I don't believe any docs exist for it as of yet.
Looks very promising though.

Subject: [PHP4BETA] Database Abstraction
Hello!
I have a question: Do you have any intention to include a feature like
database abstraction layer at PHP4? I was thinking to use PHPLib to do
this, but I have found some things at their code that I didn't like...
Of course that I can write functions or classes just to do that but if we
have something implemented directly in PHP4 it will be easier and the most
important thing: it's difficult to implement something really generic that
can be used with all databases. I think that we need specialists at many
DBMS to do the right thing and to have good performance at all of
them. I've worked a lot with Oracle but I didn't know the other DBMS
suficiently to do a really good work. The databases are the heart of a
site and if you loose performance doing dumby functions, it can be
critical...
If there is an interest in implementing that, I would like to colaborate.
Thanks,
Andre.
PS: Sorry about any English mistakes... My portuguese is better! :-))
