It is possible that they could be finding and loading two different JVMs.
I presume that the first example is using ext_java, in which case it will
look in your path for javai.dll (jvm.dll for JDK 1.2+ users). With Tomcat,
you will use the JVM associated with the java.exe that you use to launch
Tomcat.
As many products ship JVMs these days, it is possible that you are finding
another one and using it...
