OK, there was a bug in PHP in virtual_creat implementation, that copy
function uses. It should be fixed in current CVS.
You can also try disable VIRTUAL_DIR in php.h if you feel that something
strange with file operations happens that didn't happen before, and if it
works (it should) then it's a bug in one of virtual_ functions.
