so the difference is a single space ( '< <' instead of '<<' ) ?
i'm not shure if a '<<' should work or not,
but at least it should not show the effect you experienced
so no need to be sorry, this was not your fault
it should either work or throw a warning instead of randomly
inserting characters ...
