can't load .so file

I'm having a problem with loading dynamic libraries in PHP4.
Simple test scripts:
<?
dl("ispiutils.so");
?>
Results in:
Fatal error: Unable to load dynamic library 'ispiutils.so' - ld.so.1:
/usr/local/etc/zend-apache/bin/httpd: fatal:
ispiutils.so: open failed: No such file or directory in
/export/home/staff/andrey/www/php/test.phtml on line 2
The extension dir in php3.ini is specified as:
extension_dir = /export/httpd/php/lib
and listing directory:
16:45 thelonious[354] ls -l /export/httpd/php/lib
total 34
drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 512 Jun 11 14:59 ispi
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root other 14605 Jul 2 16:42 ispiutils.so

So I can't figure out why it's not finding the file..
