When you install IIS, it automatically registers itself as a service. Even
better, it is specified to start every time NT Server boots. As you've found,
this can be problematic if also loads a filter that is out of whack.
The inetinfo.exe is run because one or more internet services is running. Try
this to get stop the inetinfo.exe.
1) Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Services
2) Stop all of the following service:
- IIS Admin Service
- World Wide Web Publishing Service
- Any other internet related services (e.g., FTP Server)
3) You can open Task Manager, locate the inetinfo.exe, and "Stop"
all of the web related services in the Services Window.
Also notice that starting one service may cause other services to be
automatically loaded. And when you stop the service, it will not automatically
unload the services it started. I've got command line aliases setup to 'start',
'stop' and 'restart' the inetinfo.exe. Basically:
alias start='net start w3svc'
alias stop='net stop w3svc; net stop iisadmin'
alias restart='stop; net start w3svc'
To make debugging easier, you "can" run IIS as a process, which makes it easier
to load into Dev Studio. But I can't seem to get this to work. If anybody has
any hints on this, I'd appreciate it.
