I am pleased to report that compiling php4 as a static module (as opposed
to DSO) did in fact appear to resolve the bug 1761 problem of include
failures (at least for me), and as promised it does even appear to even
be a little faster as a static module. However, I am trying to get it to
work with mysql and phplib. Whenever I prepend the phplib prepend.php3
file I get the following error in Netscape:
Parse error: parse error in db_mysql.inc on line 36
db_mysql.inc is an included file that sets up the database connection
(which worked perfectly in php 3.0.9). The line that is being referenced
(36) in the error is as follows:
35 /* public: identification constant. never change this. */
36 var $type = "mysql";
37 var $revision = "\$Revision: 1.15 $";
I remembers someone else saying there was a problem with mysql and php 4.
However the mysql support appeared to install correctly (at least there
was no problem during install and it is listed in the phpinfo page) and I
am able to use it successfully on pages which make the connection
directly (not depending upon phplib). Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated as I would really like to get this installation finished as
soon as possible. Thanks much for the suggestions thus far.
