GIF images BUG?

Hi!
I am running PHP4 beta 1 as Apache (1.3.6) on a Intel 586 running
RedHat 5.2 Kernel Version 2.0.36.
Everything seemed to run well so far, but know I ran into this problem:
An image creation script which ran fine with 3.0.11 doesn't run
anymore. The browser returns "Document contains no data" and my
httpd-error-log says "child pid xxxxx exit signal Segmentation fault
(11).
Is that a bug or just a misconfiguration?
