PHP4, PyApache and perl regex

If you attempt to include perl regexes in PHP4 and use PyApache (with
it's perl regular expressions) you get oodles of function redefinitions
because of name collisions.
WOuld it be possible to prepend a php_ to the function names where there
are potential conflicts like this? I'm not a big C programmer, so I'm
just guessing at a solution to this.
