Hiya! Ok... I have been lurking on the PHP3/PHP4 lists for more than a year, sucking up information and agonizing about EmbPERL/PHP. But NO, this is not a call for discussion :) From the subject, you can see I am planning to go PHP4.Good to hear :)
Can someone fill me in on how PHP4 fits in with IIS? This is a major point for me - how tightly coupled will it turn out to be in say, 6 months? Will I be able to use PHP4 instead of ASP - the *.exe idea is simply not fast enough. We've put a lot of effort into making Zend completely independent of its environment, and writing an abstracted interface between PHP and whatever web server it may be running in. We've also put a lot of effort into making the Win32 version of PHP as stable as the UNIX version. That said, PHP 4.0 integrates closely with IIS 4.0. It hasn't gotten enough testing, almost no testing at all - but it should be extremely stable. Like the Win32 version of Apache - it may take some time before we can say the native IIS module is as stable as the native Apache module under UNIX. But we're not that far off.
