Christophe,
I have reviewed your code, and here is what I have done that has been
working for me. I've been playing around with the session management stuff
for a week or so now (RedHat 6.0, apache 1.3.6, PHP Beta 2 statically
linked), so if anyone else has a cleaner solution to what I'm doing than
feel free to offer a better suggestion...
First of all, have you linked the .php3 extension to your
application/x-httpd-php not application/x-httpd-php3 in apache? That would
help first of all...
Secondly, as far as I have seen you need to call session_start() at the
beginning of each page. (I am not sure if this is correct, but that is the
only way it worked for me.)
Finally, session_register() must be called *BEFORE* you assign a value to
the variable. This should solve most of your problems. If you would like
some sample code, or some more advice, you can reply to me privately or if
more people on the list would like some samples, I would gladly post it up.

Do not feel too sad about it, i didn't manage to have the sessions stuff
working under Linux either. Furthermore, none in this list seem to know
how it really works. Why is it so damn difficult to get this
information ?
My sample scripts are there, if you have a moment, please have a look.
I've tried about every possible solution.

Please let us know if someone has seen it working, i begin to ask
myself if sessions under php4 really work or not ;-))
