Hey, it worked faster than I hoped initially.

I haven't performed any real tests, but it looks promising.
To use it, add a file called php.map in the root of php:
PHPX { global: *; };
where X is an element of {3,4}. Then change the APXS_LDFLAGS
line in Makefile.in from
APXS_LDFLAGS = $(EXTRA_LIBS) $(LIBS)
to
APXS_LDFLAGS = -Wl,--version-script=php.map $(EXTRA_LIBS) $(LIBS)
Et voila. Configure --with-apxs.
