No. I wrote that code that way to avoid these ugly ifdefs. If TRANS_SID is not defined, session_adapt_uris(..); will evaluate to ";" which means that the compiler will remove dead code (newstr will be always NULL then, therefore both if(newstr) { .. } constructs fall away).
