php4 cvs problems?

Hi --
I just obtained the latest php4 cvs source tree, built it following the
instructions, verified I had the same or greater version numbers, and
compiling it with Stronghold went through seamlessly. No errors (visible?)
reported. Verified that the ~src/modules/php4 directory was freshly
installed.
I had copied the executible and installed the server. All went well,
websites (non-php based) work fine, without a problem.
But whenever I run a .php file, I automatically get this error:

fault (11)
[Fri Oct 22 21:42:04 1999] [notice] child pid 29794 exit signal Segmentation
fault (11)
What would be the best way to troubleshoot and diagnose this problem, and is
anyone seeing a similar problem?
