Error: with MySQL Connect

I compiled the cvs version of PHP/4.0B3-RC2 this evening.
Although I got no compilation errors, I get the following browser
error when loading a previously working page from beta 2:
Warning: Cant connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/tmp/mysql.sock' (111) in ......
mysql.sock is located at /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
What do I need to do to point PHP to the right location for mysql.sock?
