php4b3 Include problems

I have gotten php4b3 up and running but by include path is not working
(it worked fine in my php3 ini file). The autoappend path is working fine
but the prepend.php3 file cannot access the include files which reside in
the same directory.
My autoappend statement is
auto_prepend = /home/httpd/php/prepend.php3
My include statement is
include_path = .:home/httpd/php
An example error I am getting on each file that should be included in the
prepend is
Warning: Failed opening 'db_mysql.inc' for inclusion
(include_path='.:/home/hpptd/php') in
/home/httpd/php/prepend.php3 on line 18
I have tried to figure out what would be different between apache/php3
which worked and apache/php4 which doesn't, but no lightbulb here :-(
Ideas? Thanks.
