the function ocifreedescriptor was never ment to e called like you do.
- and it does not work that way (even in 3.x) - just var_dump() the
result of ocifreedescriptor and it will always be false.
what you want to do is (this is valid for *ALL* php versions that
support oci8 descriptors):

$stmt = OCIParse($conn,"select rowid from dual");
$rowid = OCINewDescriptor($conn,OCI_D_ROWID);
OCIDefineByName($stmt,"ROWID",&$rowid);

$rowid->free();

ROWIDs and LOBs are always modified and accessed thru an OOP interface (as
of now) - im planning to implement a function interface as well - but it's
not there yet.
i think the docs are incomplete when it comes to handling LOBs,ROWIDs and
nested TABLES.
