our project now works with sybase.. thanks go to joey.. we are now using sybase-ct for compiling and not sybase-db .. we are still encountering problems though, and we do not know why.. when we access our dynamic pages (with database connections) we see that its not closing the file handle properly.. with the /usr/sbin/lsof -c httpd | wc -l command, we see that the number is always increasing (for every page hit), but never decreasing.. with static pages, the handles are open and closed as normal.. i have no idea how to solve this problem.. i have seen this happen a number of times with php4b4 but not with previous betas.. i will try beta3 to see how it goes with sybase-ct and file handling.. another problem we have is that after we compiled with sybase-ct, when the server is shut down, we cannot bring it back up.. it says /home/www/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be start and it core dumps.. when we reboot, the startup process brings it up fine without an error .. joey suggested that it doesnt have some export variables set.. thinking its a sybase problem, i copied the sybase .profile exports to /etc/profile but that isnt a solution.. what other exports need to be set? and a question about the installation of php.. to upgrade php, we are told by the quick documentation to 'make' apache and copy the httpd over the existing one.. why is the file size of the http (much-, by our experience) larger than when we do a 'make', 'make install' .. ? thanks for your time..
