PATH_INFO usage

I noted that starting with PHP4, PATH_INFO and PATH_TRANSLATED are used to
point the interpretor to the proper script. Does this mean that PATH_INFO
and PATH_TRANSLATED is being phased out as a means of passing information to
the script?
For example, this construct no longer works:
/myphp.php/extrapathinfo
