Hello,
I was asked to figure what are the requirements to use PHP with IIS using
ISAPI in terms of installation steps and resource (memory) usage.
I imagine that some of you would suggest that to use instead Unix or Apache
under Windows, but the person that asked needs to be sure that dumping ASP
for PHP is a good move and that won't require dropping Windows NT and IIS
for which it was paid a significant amount in licenses and support.
The point about memory usage is important because in the past a ISAPI based
Delphi solution was tried and that was using about 4MB of memory per ISAPI
instance. In a typical PC with 128MB of RAM could not run more than 20/30
ISAPI instances without start degrading due to memory disk swap.
How much memory a ISAPI instance running PHP 4 would take, if I may put it
in such terms?
Also would be the advantages and disadvantages of a PHP4/ISAPI/IIS solution
when compared with PHP4/Apache solution both running on Windows?
A realistic (unbiased) answer based on facts would be appreaciated.
