Autoconf or me? Looking for gif support

Trying to get the latest CVS (2000-01-03) to work with GD, I don't understand why autoconf won't define HAVE_GD_GIF, when GD is perfectly present and useable on the machine. I can build other programs with GD and gif support. We have these kind of lines in ext/gd/config.m4: AC_CHECK_LIB(gd, gdImageCreateFromGif, [AC_DEFINE(HAVE_GD_GIF, 1, [ ])]) The info on autoconf says that AC_CHECK_LIB just checks if a certain library provides a certain function. I'm sure that libgd.a provides gdImageCreateFromGif, but why isn't that detected by autoconf? I can see the function with 'nm libgd.a', and I can build testapps using this function without any problem. But, configure --with-gd renders: checking for gdImageCreateFromGif in -lgd... no Please, dear Autoconf/PHP gurus, I'm sure this is obvious to you. Can anybody enlighten me? Humbly /Johan Ekenberg
