More segfault with large Apache

I think I've tracked down the problem. Both Oracle 8.1.5 and IBM DB2 6.1
pull in libpthread when linking against their libraries (libdb2.so.1 and
libclntsh.so.8.0). The segfault is definitely being caused by
pthread_mutex_lock just shortly after loading these two libraries.
Since I don't have the source to Oracle or DB2, I'm kinda SOL. Could the
segfault be caused by php interracting poorly with these libraries? Has
anyone else had any success with them?
I tried enablying thread safety in php4, but it won't compile. (Bug
#2737, closed but not answered).
Any ideas? I do need Oracle and DB2 support eventually.
