You are correct, sir. I indeed see the two entries in the ChangeLog I
made when fixing the errors after Beta 3:

(PHP preg_replace) Fixed a bug that cause backreferences to lose
their value after the first occurrence.

Fixed a bug that would replace only the first occurrence and result in
a parse error for the rest when using /e modifier.
