I'd like to create a public profile listing of all php.net accounts, and host it on 'http://profiles.php.net'. The idea, to start with, is just to aggregate various information about the accounts from master, pear, pecl, ohloh (not implemented yet), github.. Cool idea! Now, some boring comments: We would likely need to offer users the ability to disable this page and optionally request information from users to more efficiently pull data from these other resources like for example an email address (or username/id) used on github and/or ohloh. If we are to keep the "Notes" entry (for nostalgia purposes) we should rename it to something like "Reason given when requesting this user account" and include the date. Speaking of dates, the web interface was created on "Thu, 18 Oct 2001 16:40:54 -0700" so people who were added before that time incorrectly have that date. So, if we are going to display the date then we would need to fix them by using the avail file in CVSROOT as a guide otherwise it's a lie. This applies to ~300 people. But what for the people who existed before CVS and mailing lists? Not exactly sure but there aren't many of those :) Also, we may as well start discussing how far this will go. Will we add optional fields like "Website" (a link to users blog), "About Me" (a bio), etc. kinda like the pecl.php.net and pear.php.net profile pages do currently? KISS is nice too so if this proposal is to start small with only aggregate information then that's fine but growth is something people should also think about.
I like the idea of this, I saw it on Apache I think it was, showing people involved in the project and the various sub projects under the PHP umbrella. But instead of 'profiles.php.net', then how about 'people.php.net' ?
As you can see in the screenshot, I originally 'called it' peoples.php.net, but since the idea behind people.php.net was different I decided to rather suggest profiles.
I don't think the current people.php.net idea is set in stone and instead see it as a random idea that was never fully implemented or worried about. Seems to me the two ideas can be merged into people.php.net. Regards, Philip
