I personally like the current colors, however some extra images (for example
for every news item an image to start with) could be a good idea. The
current site is not very attractive for new PHP users to visit to learn
about PHP. Also images in the manual could be nice.

Subject: [PHP-WEBMASTER] PHP.net Identity: Colors
I love that PHP.net uses purple as its main color. It's fairly unusual
and special, which are important attributes of any identity.
Is everyone agreed to keep purple as the anchor for the palette?
- Daniel: Yes yes yes!
Should we deepen the tone to make it _more_ purple?
- Daniel: The current hue is a fairly light violet, almost heather
color. I'd suggest we go with a stronger, still slightly desaturated
purple.
Should we come up with some accent colors?
- Daniel: Currently the site is fairly monotone. I've tried a bunch of
things and it's surprisingly difficult to come up with strong matching
colors. Teal, gold, and green all work ok, but I haven't really found
a specific hue that matched extremely well. I think we should find
something and then rely heavily on it as a secondary color for links,
icons, etc. This would go a long way in making the site look more
cohesive and less 'boring'.
Should we be using more imagery?
- Daniel: Currently there are almost no images on PHP.net. It's fast,
efficient, and clean because of this. But, it's also staid and
monotone. Perhaps we should start limited use of icons and images
where appropriate. Maybe we could choose a specific icon package to
start using - the Tango icons are good, for instance, though they're
limiting and are fairly generic. Other suggestions?
Daniel
