Just out of interest, are you guys compiling those without all the RedHat patches? Two of our goals for packaging are a) follow upstream stable releases, and b) maintain compatibility with how Redhat packages function. We generally start with either Redhat or Fedora source RPMs and modify to our needs from there. In general, going from RHEL's version to the latest stable eliminates the need for a number of patches. Should a patch fail we evaluate whether it is still necessary, and if so (generally because it fixes a compile/build issue) we will rewrite and reapply it. There are likely a number of legacy patches that could be removed, though as mentioned we try to maintain compatibility with how Redhat packages work so we don't actively remove them unless they fail to patch. The following are the current patches we apply: PHP 5.2.11 ------------------------------------------ Patch1: php-5.2.4-gnusrc.patch Patch2: php-4.3.3-install.patch Patch3: php-5.2.4-norpath.patch Patch4: php-4.3.2-libtool15.patch Patch5: php-5.0.2-phpize64.patch # Fixes for extension modules Patch22: php-4.3.11-shutdown.patch # Functional changes Patch30: php-5.0.4-dlopen.patch Patch31: php-5.2.4-easter.patch # Fixes for tests Patch350: php-5.2.8-dashn.patch Patch51: php-5.0.4-tests-wddx.patch # New Patches Patch300: php-5.2.1-PQfreemem.patch Patch302: php-5.2.8-oci8-lib64.patch Patch310: php-5.2.10-bug47285.patch # Security patches Patch311: php-5.2.11-bug447752.patch Patch312: php-5.2.11-bug462057.patch PHP 5.3.0 ------------------------------------------ Patch1: php-5.2.4-gnusrc.patch Patch2: php-4.3.3-install.patch Patch3: php-5.2.4-norpath.patch Patch4: php-4.3.2-libtool15.patch Patch5: php-5.0.2-phpize64.patch # Fixes for extension modules Patch22: php-4.3.11-shutdown.patch # Functional changes Patch30: php-5.0.4-dlopen.patch Patch31: php-5.2.4-easter.patch # Fixes for tests Patch350: php-5.2.8-dashn.patch Patch51: php-5.0.4-tests-wddx.patch # New Patches Patch300: php-5.2.1-PQfreemem.patch Patch302: php-5.3.0-oci8-lib64.patch Patch310: php-5.3.0-phpize.patch # Security patches Patch309: php-5.3.0-bug447752.patch Patch312: php-5.3.0-bug462057.patch Those listed under 'New Patches', 'Security' and in general anything patched against 5.2.x/5.3.x we have added or rewritten from legacy. Please keep in mind that if upstream PHP suggested changes to our builds including the removal of patches, or --configure option changes, we would be all ears and would certainly consider the request (can easily be request via http://bugs.launchpad.net/ius or emailed to coredev@iuscommunity.org). Please let me know if you are interested to see the contents of a patch, or you can also grab the source rpms from http://dl.iuscommunity.org/pub/ius.
