Hey Hannes,
I'm using Firefox 3.5
The browsers won't take care of this automatically. I'm not sure if you
understood my complaint fully.
Once you fill in the search box and select a "category" from the drop
down. You then click the "Search" arrow which takes you to the results
page. It is on this page that I would like to see the drop down keep
the "category" you originally chose and preferably keep it the same no
matter where you are on the site until you change it.
I am better explaining in code what I think should happen so where goes:
<?php
session_start();
$defaultSelected = 'quickref';
if (isset($_GET['show'])) {
$_SESSION['showList'] = $_GET['show'];
}
$sVal = $defaultSelected;
if (isset($_SESSION['showList'])) {
$sVal = $_SESSION['showList'];
}
?>
<select name="show">
<option value="all" <?= ($sVal=='all')?
'selected="selected"':''
?>>all php.net sites</option>
<option value="local" <?= ($sVal=='local')?
'selected="selected"':''
?>>this mirror only</option>
<option value="quickref" <?= ($sVal=='quickref')?
'selected="selected"':'' ?>>function list</option>
<option value="manual" <?= ($sVal=='manual')?
'selected="selected"':'' ?>>online documentation</option>
<option value="bugdb" <?= ($sVal=='bugdb')?
'selected="selected"':''
?>>bug database</option>
<option value="news_archive" <?= ($sVal=='news_archive')?
'selected="selected"':'' ?>>Site News Archive</option>
<option value="changelogs" <?= ($sVal=='changelogs')?
'selected="selected"':'' ?>>All Changelogs</option>
<option value="pear" <?= ($sVal=='pear')?
'selected="selected"':''
?>>just pear.php.net</option>
<option value="pecl" <?= ($sVal=='pecl')?
'selected="selected"':''
?>>just pecl.php.net</option>
<option value="talks" <?= ($sVal=='talks')?
'selected="selected"':''
?>>just talks.php.net</option>
<option value="maillist" <?= ($sVal=='maillist')?
'selected="selected"':'' ?>>general mailing list</option>
<option value="devlist" <?= ($sVal=='devlist')?
'selected="selected"':'' ?>>developer mailing
list</option>
<option value="phpdoc" <?= ($sVal=='phpdoc')?
'selected="selected"':'' ?>>documentation mailing
list</option>
</select>
Hope that makes sense and you consider my example, I have already tested
it and it will do the trick perfectly.
Thanks
Glen Boonzaier

What kind of browser do you use?
All the browsers I know of take care of this, and it is the browers
responsibility to provide this feature.
