John,
This appears to be a path-structure issue and the differences between Unix
pathnames and Windows pathnames. As Windows uses backslashes and Unix uses
frontslashes to denote directory structure, using frontslashes on a Windows PHP
installation MIGHT cause problems. I say MIGHT because as far as I knew, PHP
was supposed to translate these for you correctly... However, when you're using
a system variable like $PATH_TRANSLATED, it most likely will only return the
system-specific path (something like "/home/john/phpdir/blah.php" on Unix or
"c:\users\john\phpdir\blah.php" on WinNT/2000). Although, from the looks of it,
the $URL variable should come in with frontslashes, instead of backslashes....
maybe, maybe not. If you echo the $URL variable back, what does it look like?
That help at all?
