Cannot connect to MySQL with PHP 4.1.1

For some reason, after I upgraded to 4.1.1, I am not able to connect to MySQL DB sources anymore. AFAIK I have set up the ini file like I should, there are no differences in the IIS config since the 4.0.5 version I have been running here was installed. Anyone familiar with this? I have seen hundreds of these errors all over the web, but I have not found a solution to the problem yet. I am tired of searching around the web for something that is probably trivial :) I have not upgraded my MySQL install, only php.
