This is an fyi post to those still running 4.1.2 and earlier....too many
hours were spent before I finally found the answer. Hopefully someone finds
this before duplicating my struggle. At first I thought it was a bug, but
it was a configuration setting in php.ini--oh the shame...
Are your sessions resetting at weird times after you click a link to your
site? Are you missing session data after a successful first initialization?
Check the session.referer line in your php.ini. PHP is expecting what comes
after the equal sign to be a string, not a 1, 0, On, or Off.
CORRECT (disabling feature):
Session.referer = ; default is the empty string
INCORRECT:
Session.referer = 0; invalidates all requests that have a session specified
alongside a referer in the request
