I've been trying to get the installation of php3 and apache to work on my
Win NT 4.0 (build 6) system, so far with no success. I've also read the
archives, faqs and whatever else I could get a hold of, but none of the
suggestions seemed to work. Any help would be much appreciated or any
suggestions to further diagnose the problem would be useful. Thanks in
advance.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Apache 1.3.12 installed with the following httpd.conf:
per install:
ServerRoot "c:/apache"
DocumentRoot "c:/apache/htdocs" (location of my php3 script file)
changes:
ServerName localhost (no apparent effect)
ScriptAlias /php3/ "c:/php3/" (php3 directory location)
AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3 .phtml
AddType application/x-httpd-php3-source .phps
Action application/x-httpd-php3 "c:/php3/php.exe"
-------------------------------------------------------------------
2) php3 3.0.16
php3.ini-dist copied to c:/Winnt directory and renamed to php3.ini
I used this file as is, and have also tested it with the following changes
as well:
doc_root = c:\apache\htdocs
extension_dir = c:\php3
-------------------------------------------------------------------
3) I am testing with the following two files which have been both
placed in the c:\apache\htdocs directory.
hello.php3 - contents as follows:
<html><head><title>PHP Test</title></head>
<body>
<?php echo "Hello World!<P>"; ?>
</body></html>
test.php3 - contents as follows:
<?php echo "Hello World!"; ?>
-------------------------------------------------------------------
4) I start up the apache web server - no apparent problem
5) I get the following results from IE .5.5 or Netscape 4.72 when
using the following url:
a) http://127.0.0.1/hello.php3 - in this case the browser
screen is blank.
When I display the page source, it shows me the contents of the hello.php3
file.
b) http://127.0.0.1/test.php3 - in this case the content of
the file
is displayed but not run, namely:
<?php echo "Hello World!"; ?>
-------------------------------------------------------------------
6) The apache log file contains the following:
127.0.0.1 - - [02/Aug/2000:16:32:56 +0100] "GET /hello.php3 HTTP/1.1" 200 104
127.0.0.1 - - [02/Aug/2000:16:33:05 +0100] "GET /test.php3 HTTP/1.1" 200 33
There is no information in the error log.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
7) When I run the following from the start menu: c:/php3/php hello.php3
I get a DOS window that briefly opens and disappears, but too quickly for
me to read the content. Neither the apache log or error files contains
any info after I do this.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
8) Lastly, and maybe most importantly is that I have not, nor has the
installation as far as I can tell made updates to the registry, and I'm
not sure that it is necessary for the php3 - apache installation.
