Problems with gd library

Hello, I have a problem when I try to add php_gd.dll library. I have downloaded the file php_gd.dll and I have modified within c:/windows/php.ini (php 4.0.1pl2) in Windows Extension section the quoted thing that follows "extension=php_gd.dll" ( the extension directory points to the directory where php is installed: "extension_dir= C:/PHP" ). Well when I run phpinfo function there is no gd section. The same thing for php_zlib.dll or php_crypt.dll. Something is fishy around and I can not figure out what. I am somehow disappointed (it is two weeks by now since when I started to try to fix the problem) and I need some help... of course if there is someone that can help me. Maybe (s)he can help me with php_gd.dll or other dlls that are working... maybe mine are not working.
