Beginner question - mail()

Trying to use the mail() function with no luck.
A Simples "testmail.php" scripts generates the
following warning. I do not receive any mail.
Warning: Failed to Receive in C:\Program Files\Apache
Group\Apache2\htdocs\testmail.php on line 6
My configuration is:
PHP 4.2.3 , Windows 98, Apache (latest version)
I use yahoo.mail and tried replacing localhost in
php.ini with smtp.yahoo.com....but to no avail.
Help is appreciated.
