this has nothing to do with unicode. This is because your code is trying to set session cache-control headers too late on the login page. Check out: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.header.php http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.session-cache-limiter.php The "output_buffering" settings in php.ini can be tweaked so that headers dont have to be set at the absolute top of the page, only in the top 4k or so.
