Opening a new window?

I have a voting poll on my site. When the visitor votes I want a pop-up window to open to show the results. Is there a way I can do this from the same script. Everything I have read looks like a separate file needs to be called. In my script I am using $PHP_SELF in the form to update the votes and I just want to go from there to another function that will open a new window with the results. Thanks.
