For your particular problem, the solution offered by Jill (redirecting mailing list address) is the
only way to go, but for time out problems in general, e.g. huge database operations, writing
thousands of webpages to a directory etc etc the general approach of having a script repeatedly
running is entirely doable. As the scriipt finishes, it "redirects" to itself, attacking
the next chunk of work. Each time it does this php "restarts the stopwatch" so to speak
and so it never times out. You must keep track of variables and various place holders in a temp
file though because sessions won`t work, because each instance of the script started with a
re-direct starts its own fresh session. This process can theoretically continue forever, or at
least until you get fired for denying everyone else a chance to fetch a page or for thrashing the
server to death. This approach flies in the face of the intent of time limited scripts of
course, so such jobs should only be able to!
be called via some logged in supervisor type who knows whats happening.
