ASP will run only on windows servers, PHP can run on Windows and Unix, is
not tied to the "$erver$" platform (can run on a workstation). ASP, for the
most part works, with Databases that don't jeopardize the Microsoft near
monopoly??? PHP can be made to execute under IIS, but works best under
Apache Web Server, which is not as susceptible hacking as IIS (debatable I
guess). PHP, MySQL, Apache are all free, with much free, opensource
software available to jump start your project. Check out;

structure that
makes it easy to inject your applications into the portal. In this portal,
your actual content is stored safely in a database, with the common
housekeeping tasks, like dynamically changeable themes, News Article (Press
release) publishing and Archive management, Forums, Feedback interfaces,
visitor surveys, even includes "AvantGo" a PDA wireless page for those
devices. Needless to say, I like this one (I am a user with no connection
to the developer).
my 2 cents.

Subject: [PHP-WIN] Question, I'm a newbie.
Hi,
My name is Steve Wolfe and I'm as new to PHP as a person can be -- written
zero lines of code
in PHP.
I'm responsible for Data Services and the Networking group at the 6th
Medical Group,
MacDill AFB, FL. In my area I have several contractors (from different
vendors) as well as blue suiters
helping me maintain the workload we have in server management, Intranet
Portal requirements,
Database administration ... and on and on ...
At 14:00 EST I have a meeting with two of my contractor workers, one, who
has now been
charged with re-vamping the Intranet website we currently have. The current
version is essentially a
flat non-dynamic FrontPage hodge-podge type of structure and very difficult
to maintain.
The contractor employee has suggested I use a PHP Framework. My other
contract employee
has developed several ASP based apps that FE and mSQL database that are
Medical Operation
based applications.
Here is my question. Can most of the PHP Frameworks support mixed
operation -- work with
ASP applications -- at least call the start pages of those applications.
TIA,
v/r
